Tuesday - Competence-based Learning
Group from ROC Midden Nederland
This was an FE session, which sounded interesting.
They have 24,500 students (11,500 full-time) across 45 locations.
It is mostly senior vocational study.
Everything is project-based, not subject-based. Students are in groups of 10 with a coach. Together the group helps plan each individual's project (normally groups of 3 work on the same project). There are Blackboard sites which students self-enrol on, depending on what subject workshops they need to help with their project. Students get feedback from themselves, peers, externals, and coaches.
They want students to be able to do everything the same as instructors in some Blackboard sites.
They use portfolios as a showcase, and for assessment (three times in three years).
Was an interesting concept, requires a good student-coach relationship.
