Tuesday - Academic Suite Roadmap
With Todd Gibby, V.P. of Operations
Talked a lot about where he thought e-learning was heading (more tools, improvement on current features).
Showed some example universities who are doing the things he thought was important.
New features they are working on/have released
*Discussion boards redone completely in 7.1
-Grades for DBs possible
-Search across forums
*e-Portfolio tools enhanced
-Customize designs
-Submit for grades
*Multiple attempts when taking tests have all scores recorded, highest, etc.
*Students can self-assess where instructor can't see results
*Early warning system
-Emails students who haven't logged in recently or aren't taking tests, not submitted by close to deadline
*Content System
-Enhanced usability
-Admin cleanup
-Can add more course content (like Assignments) to portfolios.
*Internationalization
-Change words yourself
-Shared packs on websites between institutions
*"Domains" can create different looks for different groups
*SharePoint integration
*Backpack
*Caliper (see other post)
New Building Blocks that are cool:
*Browser tester from Durham
*ResearchNow - free building block that allows access to Berkeley's online document library
Next initiative is Blackboard Beyond
1) Extend platform
2) Inter-institution - respositories
3) Lifelong learning - keep e-portfolios for life
4) Outcomes - Caliper, but anonymously for worldwide sharing of data
