Hello
OK - another conference, another blog.
BbWorld Europe 06 is taking place at the Carlton Hotel in Edinburgh, 8th-10th May 2006 and this blog is to capture the experience for colleagues back at SHU. Comments welcome along the way.

I hope the content is good.
Is Melissa Andseon speaking at the conference? If so, I'd be interested in any feedback about her presentation.
She may be speaking at a UCISA event I am organising in July.

This is a quick response to Ranald's Chinese language query - probably at this point you will be sorry you asked. No early versions of Bb support chinese characters other than as images, newer versions have various language packs loaded (which means that the full language of the interface can be changed to another language at institutional, course or user level) Chinese was one of the early packs now there is an open launguage editor so that new languages added - so the newer the version the better for this, however, the first Chinese language pack supports Simplified Chinese not Traditional which is what is spoken in Hong Kong - this will be in a forthcoming pack. As you say, our students learn in English but they could convert the navigation etc, what we hope it will solve for us (further testing on this will happen soon) is the display of Chinese names which is a bigger issue for us. OK? Hope this helps
OK - next one - quick reply for Paul Buckley - no, Melissa wasn't there, although I have heard her speak before - she is very good - there is a streaming video of her speaking I could send you if you are interested. Also Melissa will be at SHU doing the pedagogical strategy work we have planned 5th-8th June if you want to meet with her and catch up before UCISA.
