guess what we found
Hello - we have ventured out of the hotel and found the internet (just lying there) across the street!
Not very many PCs so posting by committee - well Mary and Robin are watching me type badly...Liz being very serious (doing email)
OK then
Gilly keynote - as expected, if not a little bit worse - on the bright side half an hour short!
Us - 64 people (only 25 handouts though) - went very well and have been harrassed regularly by people wanting more more more
Fred Siff, CIO of Cincinnatti talked about what the core business of a university really is, providing students with fully loaded mobiles and that supporting academic staff is the hardest job to do. Excellent talk - should have been keynote.
Robin went to an FE session - desktop to mobile - only thing he can remember is that it very expensive 25p per text (he has got other notes though, honest) - presenter said "cheap compared to stamp costs"??????
Mary went to Implementing Performance Engineering Methodology at your Institution......ZZzzzzzzzzzzz
Todd Gibby - roadmap - Brian covered that pretty well - except to mention the temperature in the room and Carl O'Keefe geographically roaming accent.
I went to Educational and Managerial Parameters session by TU Delft - hmmm - still in therapy - anyone need a detailed statistics lecture about hard stuff - let me know and I'll re-run it for you. Mary and Liz went to layered support session - Mary liked it, Liz said it was "interesting" I think she was really just drawing pretty flowers on her evaluation form...It was about supporting a single Bb implementation across 11 institutions. Robin went to Bbbuildingblock usability - mostly accessibility
Posters - logistics of room rubbish some interest but most questions about other things. Todd Gibby went to talk to Robin and said that he had the shiniest head at the conference (Todd that is, not Robin :-) ) He later assured us that he would be wearing underwear at the client appreciation session.
Caught up with the lovely Thomas Collette (Backpack) who has done even more driving all over Scotland - but was very pleased to see us - gave me hug. Dan McFadden gave me stress ball. are the two related????
Client appreciation event - in a church with bagpipes, btw if you go to a chip shop in Edinburgh and ask for sausage and chips, you get two very large sausages and a free pen.
I went to a Global Services session and got singled out by Demetra, Liz was punished by being sent to something about CLA and library stuff - Robin went of his own accord. Mary went to repeat of CIO session.
Listening session - lots of basic client stuff as usual, Liz went to something about portfolios, Robin went to tidy his room.
Got to go now and find out what the design circle have done to our integrated e-learning course.

25p per txt here are some comparisons
5-10p generally for sennding a media message
football alerts £3.50 a month and preset msgs.
To be honest I don't think people mind spending money on getting information on their mobile. The difficulty is providing information they need badly enough to want to buy...
